Example Documentation: Priority Preemption

Goal

Understand PriorityClass and preemption behavior for critical and less important workloads.

01 / 05

What Is Done

The lab creates two PriorityClasses, a low-priority Deployment and a critical Pod with higher priority.

02 / 05

Typical Commands

bash
kubectl apply -f manifests/
kubectl get priorityclass
kubectl get pods -n priority-lab
kubectl describe pod critical-workload -n priority-lab
03 / 05

Validate Success

  • Both PriorityClasses exist.
  • The critical Pod uses workshop-critical.
  • Low-priority Pods use workshop-low.
04 / 05

Common Mistakes

  • Preemption is expected even though enough resources are available.
  • Cluster-wide PriorityClasses are forgotten during cleanup.
  • Very high priorities are assigned without platform rules.
