Example Documentation: Canary Ingress

Goal

Trace a canary release with stable and canary versions plus weighted Ingress routing.

01 / 05

What Is Done

The lab creates two Deployments, two Services and two Ingress objects. The stable Ingress routes normally to Stable, while the canary Ingress uses NGINX annotations for 10 percent canary traffic.

02 / 05

Typical Commands

bash
kubectl apply -f manifests/
kubectl get ingress,svc,deploy -n canary-lab
kubectl describe ingress canary-preview -n canary-lab
03 / 05

Validate Success

  • Stable and canary Pods are ready.
  • Both Services have endpoints.
  • The canary Ingress contains nginx.ingress.kubernetes.io/canary-weight: "10".
04 / 05

Common Mistakes

  • No NGINX Ingress Controller is installed.
  • Hostname canary.local.test does not point to the Ingress address.
  • The canary Service selector does not match canary Pods.
