Example Documentation: Kubernetes Guestbook Redis
Goal
Analyze a small multi-tier application with frontend, leader Service and follower Service.
What Is Done
The lab creates three Deployments and three Services. The frontend reaches Redis by cluster DNS names. Port forwarding is enough to test the example locally.
Typical Commands
kubectl apply -f manifests/
kubectl get deploy,svc,pod -n guestbook-lab
kubectl logs -n guestbook-lab deployment/redis-leader
kubectl port-forward -n guestbook-lab svc/frontend 8080:80
Validate Success
- All three Deployments roll out successfully.
redis-leader,redis-followerandfrontendeach have endpoints.- The frontend is reachable at
http://localhost:8080.
Common Mistakes
- Cluster DNS does not work, so the frontend cannot find Redis.
- Image pulls from external registries are blocked in restricted networks.
- Service selector labels do not match Deployment labels.
