Git Workshop – Overview
Overview
This workshop covers the path from fundamentals to advanced operations and security-oriented workflows. Its structure follows the Kubernetes workshop: reference documents, four workshop levels, exercises, assessments, solutions, official sources and 31 practical examples.
The focus is realistic Git practice:
- understand repository, working tree, index, commits, references and object model
- stage, commit, inspect and undo changes cleanly
- handle branches, merges, rebase, conflicts and release histories
- reason about remotes, refspecs, tags, bundles, worktrees and submodules
- use recovery with reflog, restore, reset, revert, merge abort and rebase abort
- assess credentials, signatures, hooks, secret leaks and history rewrite safely
- define team rules for shared branches, reviews and release flows
Quickstart
# Workshop content is provided through the Orthevs Academy.
chmod +x scripts/provision_git.sh
./scripts/provision_git.sh --dry-run
Then check your local Git environment:

Documentation
Examples
The examples are listed in examples/README.md. Every example contains a main description, a German detail page, an English detail page, validatable artifacts and a run.sh that creates and checks a local lab repository under work/.
Working Mode
- Read the matching document in
docs/. - Work through the workshop level in
workshops/. - Use the examples as controlled local Git labs.
- Complete the exercises and document commands, observations and recovery paths.
- Check yourself with the assessments and solutions.
Security Rule
Git commands can change local history. Before using reset --hard, rebase, filter-branch, push --force or credential configuration, know whether the affected state is local, shared or already published. Do not use real tokens or production private keys in this workshop.
Official Sources and Scope
The material is aligned with public Git documentation. GitHub, GitLab, Forgejo and other hosting platforms are mentioned only where they explain common Git workflows; they are not the same thing as Git itself.
