Kubernetes & Helm

Kubernetes maintains containerized workloads in a desired state through declarative APIs and controllers. Helm packages related Kubernetes resources as configurable, versioned charts and manages their releases.

Kubernetes & Helm as an integrable tool

This technology may become part of a Factory. The Factory defines the domain tool function; scope, version, permissions, target environment and outputs must be evaluated for each integration.

Technical purpose

Kubernetes & Helm

Kubernetes provides an API-based cluster model in which controllers continuously reconcile declared resources with observed state. Scheduling assigns workloads to suitable nodes, while service, network, storage and configuration resources describe their runtime environment. Helm adds charts, templates, values and release metadata so related resources can be installed and upgraded consistently. The tools solve different problems: Kubernetes operates resources, while Helm packages and parameterizes their definitions.

Integration in Orthevs

Orthevs Ecosystem

PEL capabilities are intended to encapsulate bootstrap, add-ons, workload handovers, upgrades and recovery through versioned contracts. Foundations connect infrastructure, host baseline, cluster, security, observability and operations into a qualifiable end-to-end path. Helm charts are rendered with pinned dependencies and values, validated and only then approved; Kubernetes objects, cluster version and target environment remain referenced as execution context. Orthevs does not claim its own Kubernetes distribution but describes controlled integration and operating paths.

Relevant capabilities

Relevant capabilities

  • Declarative resources and continuous reconciliation through Kubernetes controllers
  • Scheduling and workload placement based on available cluster resources and constraints
  • Service discovery and integration of network, storage and configuration resources
  • Rollout, scaling, health and self-healing mechanisms for supported workloads
  • Helm charts as versionable packages with templates, values and dependencies
  • Release history, upgrade and rollback within the applicable chart and cluster compatibility

Operating boundaries

Operating boundaries

Cluster operation is a distributed system with its own security, upgrade, backup, recovery and observability responsibilities. Declarative resources alone do not provide them.

A Helm chart is not a qualified release without provenance review, rendered validation, tests and defined values.

Reconciliation establishes declared state but does not automatically assess the domain correctness, security or data compatibility of a workload.

Compatibility between cluster, APIs, add-ons, charts and workloads is validated per Foundation version; uncontrolled version jumps are excluded.
