Ansible

Automates provisioning, configuration and recurring operational tasks through readable playbooks and reusable roles. Execution remains bound to inventory, variables, permissions and documented target systems.

Ansible as an integrable tool

This technology may become part of a Factory. The Factory defines the domain tool function; scope, version, permissions, target environment and outputs must be evaluated for each integration.

Technical purpose

Ansible

Ansible describes technical work as ordered tasks, playbooks and roles. A control node evaluates inventory and variables, invokes suitable modules and sends the required steps to target systems through controlled connections. Repeatable modules can establish a desired state, while handlers, conditions and error handling structure more complex flows. The result nevertheless always depends on the quality of the modules, the task logic and the actual state of the target system.

Integration in Orthevs

Orthevs Ecosystem

IEL and OSEL capabilities encapsulate Ansible as an execution tool behind a versioned Factory contract. The contract defines approved inputs, inventory sources, variables, required privileges, runtime boundaries, results and evidence. Playbooks therefore do not become public platform functions directly; they remain a controlled implementation within the responsible capability. Execution, logging and repetition must remain correlatable with the workflow, policy and evidence layers.

Relevant capabilities

Relevant capabilities

  • Playbooks for ordered and traceable automation flows
  • Roles and collections as reusable, versionable content units
  • Inventory, group and variable models for clearly bounded target systems
  • Conditions, handlers, blocks and failure paths for controlled execution
  • Check mode and differentiated feedback on proposed or completed changes
  • Extension through modules, plugins and clearly versioned collections

Operating boundaries

Operating boundaries

Root privileges and become: true are used exclusively for tasks that genuinely require them; all other execution remains unprivileged.

Secrets do not belong in playbooks, public inventories, logs or unprotected variables. They must be supplied through dedicated secret mechanisms.

A successfully completed task does not automatically prove a correct overall domain state; additional validation and evidence remain necessary.

Collections, roles and modules are supply-chain dependencies and require pinned versions, provenance review, tests and controlled updates.
