Connected operating architecture

As an OS. As a local service. In the cloud. Connected together.

Orthevs is designed as a distributable engineering system. The same contracts, identities and artifact models are intended to connect a local instance, private or public cloud services and Orthevs OS without dissolving their operating and trust boundaries.

4Operating forms

Operating forms

Four operating forms. One shared system model.

A capability should run where data, resources, risk and operational responsibility require it. The control plane coordinates while execution and data storage can deliberately remain local, distributed or cloud-based.

01 · LOCAL

Local service

Platform Core, selected Labs and capabilities run on a workstation, VM or single server—suited to development, laboratories, isolated environments and smaller teams.

02 · CLOUD

Private or public cloud

Services run with scalable and highly available profiles. Provider-specific functions remain visibly bounded behind adapters and explicit capability contracts.

03 · OS

Orthevs OS

The long-term target is an integrated distribution with Orthevs Runtime and a shared web, desktop, CLI and TUI experience. It can execute local capabilities and consume connected services.

04 · MESH

Connected environment

Local, cloud and OS instances collaborate in a federated model. Workflows can dispatch tasks to suitable execution targets while identity, policy, audit and provenance remain continuous.

Connection points

Connect without blurring boundaries.

The connection is not based on shared internal databases. It is formed through published capabilities, controlled identities and referenced artifacts.

1

Capability Contracts

Versioned APIs, events and artifact schemas define verifiable handovers.

2

Federated identity

Short-lived scoped identities replace broadly shared credentials.

3

Policy & trust

Each environment retains its own policies, approvals and trust boundaries.

4

Artifacts & provenance

Digests, signatures and provenance connect outcomes without exposing internal storage.

5

Events & operation IDs

Asynchronous flows remain correlatable and auditable across system boundaries.

6

Targeted execution

Data and workloads remain where location, hardware, cost or protection needs require them.

Orthevs Distributed Engineering System

The operating forms and federated connection described here are the strategic target. Existing Docker services and local deployments are the technical starting point; maturity and supported scope will be stated per release.
